Augmented Reality Designer Jobs | AR UI/UX & Creative Roles

Augmented reality designer jobs sit at the intersection of product design, spatial computing, and real-world usability. AR designers shape how digital information appears in physical space: what users see, where content lives, how interactions feel, and how the experience adapts to different environments. Projects range from mobile AR try-on and marketing to industrial guidance, education, and mixed reality productivity.

Unlike traditional 2D UI, AR design must consider depth, scale, occlusion, and the user’s movement through a space. Designers often create spatial UI patterns, onboarding flows, and interaction models that are intuitive with touch, gestures, or controller input. A big part of the role is ensuring clarity and comfort: keeping text legible across lighting conditions, preventing clutter, and guiding attention without overwhelming the user. Many AR products also require thoughtful “failure states,” such as what happens when tracking is lost or when the scene is too dark.

AR designers commonly work with tools like Figma for flows and interface components, plus 3D tools (for example Blender, Cinema 4D, or similar) for mockups and assets. Prototyping may happen in Unity, Unreal, or specialized AR prototyping frameworks. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers to validate feasibility, define interaction constraints, and iterate quickly on-device. Research and testing are critical: what reads well in a studio may fail outdoors or in a busy room.
