Meta Reality Labs is shaping the future of technology and our Industrial Design team is helping bring the next generation of hardware to life. As an Industrial Design Architect, you will use your hands-on Mechanical Engineering skills to create delightful, holistically considered products. A demonstrated mechanical aptitude and in-depth understanding of industrial design will enable you to take things from "outlandish idea" to "plan of record".

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Industrial Design team to develop technical solutions ranging from high-level experience prototypes to detailed, functional designs.
  • Drive rapid concept exploration, iterative prototyping, and mechanical implementation of inventive design features and mechanisms.
  • Push the state of the art of physical technology integration, component optimization, and manufacturing processes.
  • Create and refine effective ways to address complex ergonomic challenges.
  • Partner closely with Product Design Engineering and other internal teams; leverage external partners to implement novel component designs and manufacturing solutions.
  • Travel internationally to support manufacturing builds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years developing high-volume consumer electronics or wearable tech products.
  • Expertise creating high-fidelity mockups, mechanisms, and rapid prototypes; designing plastic and metal parts for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD modeling (NX, Creo, or Solidworks), including complex surfacing.
  • Experience working collaboratively with ID, ME, EE, and PM teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years product design/development of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with DFM, DFA, statistical tolerance analysis, GD&T; defining product-level mechanical architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows.

Location: Seattle, WA. Compensation: $144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits.
